What We Do

We place customized library containers (book pods) in areas of rural Kenya where students do not have adequate access to educational resources.

It takes approximately 30,000 books to fill a  library container. We collect new and used ones from old and new friends. We scour each one for content appropriateness, then sort, digitally catalog, and mark by reading level to place in the pod.

Each pod offers English reading coaches to help students with their reading skills, play educational games, and show genuine care. Coaches also visit area schools to read to students and share about the pod.

Beyond books, KanKen Connect provides additional resources to help students learn, whether it be games and activities, dictionaries or subject-specific materials. Go here to purchase.

These 'Lil Blue Boxes are an extension of the library pods and are being placed in strategic locations in the community to provide greater access to our books. 

KanKen does not operate in a vacuum. We are located within a larger community that consists of a local school and medical services. We partner with these groups to provide better services - together. 

Not only do we provide students with reading materials for greater opportunities for their futures, we also share the hope of eternity with them through the Gospel-which they can now read for themselves!

We are equipping our Reading Coaches and others with essential knowledge and skills for faithful, doctrinally sound ministry through the monthly cohort SOMA Program which spans 3.5 years and 42 books.
